An update from our friends at The New Hampshire Institute of Art (NHIA)

Last summer, The New Hampshire Institute of Art’s John Teti Rare Photography Book and Print Collection received a second major gift from collector and philanthropist John Teti. This gift contained original photographic prints of many leading 20th-century photographers, including Harry Callahan, Paul Caponigro, Imogen Cunningham, Lee Friedlander, Andre Kertesz, Man Ray, Minor White, and more. These works are now being added via JSTOR Forum to the NHIA Photograph Collection, which is available as a Public Collection on Artstor. The collection has now grown to nearly 600 images.

In addition to these photographic works, Mr. Teti’s gift also includes work in several other formats such as lithographs and etchings, available in The NHIA Art Collection. The Art Collection also contains works donated by the family of the late American illustrator George Stavrinos. In the future, we plan to also add selections from our collection of artwork by the illustrator Nora S. Unwin, as well as images from the Institute’s Richard D. Murphy Ceramics Collection.

With the recent launch of the Public Collections in Artstor, both of these collections are freely available to anyone at library.artstor.org. The collections will continue to grow as new material is donated, digitized, and cataloged by the Teti Library.

Other Public Collections from the Institute include the NHIA Archives Collection, which houses a variety of publications, exhibition and instructional materials, photographs, and media clippings dating back to the early days of the Institute when it was called the “Manchester Institute of Arts and Sciences,” and the NHIA Underground Gallery Photograph Collection, featuring photographic prints donated by Norbert Kleber, photographer and founder of The Underground Gallery in New York City.
