Advancing equitable access for every institution
JSTOR’s fee models are designed to provide the broadest possible access to scholarship and ensure that this access will be available for future generations. As a nonprofit organization, JSTOR’s mission is to expand equitable access—not profit from it. Our classification system ensures that institutions of all sizes and types contribute fairly and benefit fully from the depth of our collections and services.
JSTOR classifications
JSTOR’s classifications ensure that fees are fair, transparent, and proportionate to the size, scope, and mission of participating institutions. Each model uses metrics and frameworks appropriate to its community, helping JSTOR provide equitable access worldwide.
If your institution does not already have a JSTOR classification, you can request one by providing details such as your enrollment, holdings, and operating budget.

Archival journals and primary sources
JSTOR’s archival journals and primary sources collections bring together the full runs of leading academic journals and millions of primary source materials spanning centuries and disciplines to support deep, interdisciplinary research and teaching. Institutions can license individual collections, or choose the full journals and primary sources fee model, which provides immediate access to all licensed archival journals and primary sources in a single collection.
Institutions can also add new JSTOR collections or convert existing licensed archive collections under our one-time payment model. Because JSTOR’s archives expand each year, your investment—whether ongoing or one-time—continues to grow in value, ensuring sustainable access to an ever-expanding body of scholarship.
