Journal Hosting Program has ended

JSTOR’s Journal Hosting Program (JHP) integrated the most recent issues of more than 250 journals with archival journals and ebooks on JSTOR. The program ended on January 1, 2022.

About the Journal Hosting Program

Launched in 2011, the Journal Hosting Program allowed publishers to host their most recent issues alongside journal archives on JSTOR. The program was designed to expand readership through an affordable, sustainable model for libraries, publishers, and JSTOR alike.

However, operating JHP became financially unsustainable for both JSTOR and participating publishers. After careful consideration, JSTOR concluded the program at the end of the 2021 subscription period.

What this means for participating institutions

  • Journals available only through the Journal Hosting Program have been removed from JSTOR.
  • Journals that are also part of JSTOR’s archival collections remain available, with content accessible up to the moving wall, and new material added each year.
  • JSTOR no longer offers Post-Cancellation Access (PCA) for JHP titles. To request PCA, you will need to reach out to the new hosting platform. A JHP Publisher Transition Guide for all JHP titles, including their new hosting platforms, is available for download.
  • PCA claims for content already in the JSTOR archives remain active, and participating institutions can continue to access materials as the moving wall advances.
  • Portico participants may request PCA for JHP titles from support@portico.org if the publisher is unable to provide it. If you are not a Portico participant and want to learn more, contact us.

What hasn’t changed

The end of JHP has no impact on JSTOR’s archival journal content. All JHP titles that are also part of JSTOR’s archival journal collections remain preserved and accessible, with additional content added each year as part of JSTOR’s ongoing mission to expand equitable access to knowledge.

While JHP has ended, JSTOR’s archival journal collections continue to provide sustainable, long-term access to thousands of journals across disciplines—offering complete runs from volume 1, issue 1 up to the moving wall.
