The Disciples of Christ Historical Society (DCHS) will adopt JSTOR Digital Stewardship Services as a unified home for its digital collections, and join the Tier 3 charter program to help shape the next generation of stewardship tools and practices.

DCHS is the primary archives for congregations and ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). It preserves and provides access to documents, books, periodicals, audio and visual materials, and other artifacts that tell the story of the denomination and the broader Stone-Campbell movement out of which it emerges. Through the Tier 3 charter program, DCHS will gain access to JSTOR Seeklight, the AI-powered collections processing tool within JSTOR Digital Stewardship Services, and will help inform future functionality through working groups, user testing, and regular cohort discussions. DCHS will also transition collections currently hosted in Digital Commons into the integrated Stewardship platform for digital asset management, long-term preservation with Portico, and expanded discovery pathways—including the ability to share collections on JSTOR.

“Our archival team is small, and AI-assisted description could dramatically increase our capacity to provide online access to digitized collection materials. We are also excited to participate in the charter program and to work with JSTOR and the archival community to develop responsible ways to integrate AI into archival work,” said Colleen McFarland Rademaker, Senior Archivist at DCHS.

“DCHS is the first historical society and denominational archives to join the charter program, and they’ll bring an important perspective to the charter community,” said Jess Clemons, Director of Business Development, JSTOR Stewardship. “We’re honored to support their work and partner with them to strengthen responsible digital collections stewardship.”
