Deakin University is joining JSTOR Digital Stewardship Services as a Tier 2 participant, adopting JSTOR’s integrated digital collections platform and expanding the community of Australian institutions working with JSTOR across its stewardship offerings.

Through JSTOR Stewardship, Deakin will be able to organize digitized materials in a modern digital asset management system, organize collections into searchable and browsable structures, support public discovery through JSTOR, and strengthen long-term care through preservation with Portico. Together, these capabilities will help the Deakin team create richer public experiences for digitized materials while supporting a more sustainable foundation for digital collections work.

An early focus will be the McGlashan Everist architecture firm archive, a significant collection connected to Australian architectural history. JSTOR Stewardship will help the library connect architectural plans, descriptive context, and related materials, while also supporting future work with formats such as oral histories.

Deakin is the ninth Australian institution to join JSTOR Stewardship through its different participation pathways.

“We have invested deeply in digitizing collections that deserve to be discoverable, contextualized, and preserved for the long term,” said Anna Rubinowski, Senior Manager, Collections at Deakin University. “JSTOR Stewardship gives us a strong foundation for bringing materials into public view while furthering our long-term digital collections strategy.”

“Deakin’s team came to JSTOR Stewardship with a clear use case, thoughtful questions, and a strong understanding of what sustainable digital collections work requires,” said Andy Utterback, Senior Business Development Manager, JSTOR Stewardship. “We’re excited to support their goals and to see Australian institutions continue to shape the future of digital stewardship across the JSTOR community.”
