Bruce Heterick named Senior VP of Open Collections & Infrastructure
Bruce Heterick, ITHAKA Vice President of Institutional Participation and Strategic Partnerships, has been named Senior Vice President, Open Collections & Infrastructure.
In his new role, Bruce will lead our efforts to work with libraries and consortia to accelerate the availability and utility of openly accessible collections by enabling them to digitize, upload, catalogue, publish, and preserve their materials on the JSTOR platform. Our goal is to help libraries leverage the community-wide investment in JSTOR by placing their own collections on one of the most heavily used research platforms in the world. This will create new opportunities for research and learning by assembling related content from across institutional boundaries, together with the vast collection of high-quality books, journals, and images already available on JSTOR.
Bruce has been responsible for growing and deepening ITHAKA’s relationships with libraries for nearly 20 years. When he first came to JSTOR, we were supported by 500 libraries in seven countries. Under his leadership, this has grown to more than 11,000 academic libraries, secondary schools, research organizations and NGOs, and public libraries. We work with libraries in 170 countries, including almost 70 where JSTOR access is free. Bruce was also instrumental in introducing Artstor to libraries when it launched, and has led library outreach for our Portico service since its inception–more than 1,000 libraries now support our critical work to preserve digital content at scale. He is a passionate champion of our mission to expand access to knowledge and education, embracing technology to do this in ways that make it affordable to everyone.
Bruce will further our work to develop the JSTOR Forum and Reveal Digital services, and will lead strategic discussions with libraries about how we continue to grow and co-create the next generation of JSTOR as a robust, sustainable platform for open collections.
