JSTOR’s social media channels are spaces for inquiry, discussion, and discovery. We welcome a wide range of perspectives, including critical ones, and value dialogue that reflects the curiosity, care, and intellectual engagement at the heart of scholarship.

To maintain a safe and respectful environment for all, we ask that participants follow these community guidelines:

1. Respect one another

We do not allow:

  • Disrespect, personal attacks, or targeted harassment
  • Hate speech, slurs, or discriminatory language
  • Doxxing, threats, or intimidation
  • Spam, promotions, or off-topic posts or events
  • Political or religious disputes on a personal level

Content that violates these expectations may be removed. Repeat or serious violations may result in further action.

2. Engage thoughtfully

We encourage conversation that is spirited and respectful. Disagreement is welcome but must be expressed without hostility or sarcasm directed at individuals.

3. No tolerance for harassment

If a post targets an individual (whether a staff member or another commenter) with ridicule, insult, or harm, it will be removed. We prioritize the safety and dignity of our team and community.

4. Avoid misinformation

We may remove or correct posts that contain false or misleading information, at our discretion. When appropriate, we will provide resources or context to support informed conversation.

5. Moderation may include removal

Comments may be removed for violating these guidelines or platform policies. In community spaces (like Tumblr or LinkedIn groups), removals may include a brief explanatory note.

6. Support one another

If you experience or witness harmful behavior on our channels, please contact us via DM on the relevant platform. We are committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive online space.

7. What we value

We amplify voices that support equitable knowledge access and the advancement of scholarship. We also welcome contributions that bring insight, warmth, or imagination when aligned with our values.

We recognize that not all advocacy for equitable access is created equal. We seek to highlight voices engaged in this work with integrity, intention, and a demonstrated commitment to sustainability. While we aim to foster a welcoming and thoughtful space, we reserve discretion in what we choose to elevate.
