Books at JSTOR is an initiative to publish scholarly books online as part of JSTOR, one of the most well known and widely used scholarly resources.

Working together with partner publishers, libraries, and scholars, we are developing a new online offering for current and backlist books that we hope will meet the needs of these groups better than anything available in our community today.

We will:
  • Provide broad use and flexible purchase models for libraries;
  • Deliver a unique and valuable research experience for users; and
  • Enable sustainable models for publishers and their authors in the future.

Our driving focus is to deliver great content and experiences to researchers–an objective shared by publishers and libraries. Books will be cross-searchable with the millions of journal articles and primary sources on JSTOR, linked through our vast network of citations, contextualized by more than 1 million book reviews on the platform, and provide an online research experience marked by personalized, user-driven functionality.

Benefits for Libraries

  • Great content you can rely on.  We are committed to providing the highest quality books across the humanities, sciences, and social sciences.
  • Books where your users want them. Books will be integrated into JSTOR, one of the most heavily used and valued online resources among faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates.
  • Terms to encourage use.  Success for us means increased access to and use of scholarly work. Our terms of use will reflect this aim.
  • Preservation you trust. We share your mission and for nearly two decades, have been your partner in preserving content for the future.

Benefits for Users

  • More than 15,000 scholarly books from important publishers. We are bringing together a substantial set of high-quality publishers and books across the humanities, sciences, and social sciences.
  • A network of ideas. Books, research articles, and reviews will be cross-searchable and linked in ways that make online research faster, easier, and more effective.
  • An easy way to stay on top of research. Alerts of newly published books will be cross-publisher and based on user topical interests. It will also be possible to be notified when books are reviewed or cited in the future.
  • A reliable resource for students. Educators can confidently point students to JSTOR for research, assured that they will find breadth of sources, all of which are trusted.

Benefits for Publishers

  • New sales and revenue growth. Grow your library purchases through our global network of 7,000+ domestic and international institutions, and explore alternative revenue sources through services that benefit the scholarly community.
  • Greater visibility and impact for your books. Make your books available in a trusted and heavily trafficked research destination, alongside the highest quality academic content and as part of a network of reviews and citations enabling scholarly exploration.
  • A growing network of faculty and graduate students. More than 150,000 contacts in our network can create new touch points for marketing your books in ways you cannot on your own.
  • Preservation for the long-term with a trusted partner and track record of success. Place your books in the best hands to provide certainty about the longevity and reliability of your digital editions.
