Participation Fees for JSTOR for U.S. Universities and Four-Year Colleges

Institutions will pay two fees to participate in each JSTOR collection: an Archive Capital Fee (ACF) and an Annual Access Fee (AAF). Some collections require a one-time Network Participation Fee rather than an Archive Capital Fee. These fees vary depending upon the JSTOR Classification of your institution.

The ACF is a one-time fee per collection designed to ensure that JSTOR has the necessary resources to meet its archival obligation to migrate data and software systems as technology evolves. The Network Participation Fee (if applicable) is used for purposes broadly associated with facilitating access.

The AAF is intended to cover the ongoing costs of maintenance, user services, and administration required to support your access to collections in JSTOR. The AAF is invoiced on a calendar year basis.

Please note that the Archive Capital and Annual Access Fees will be reduced as appropriate to account for the overlap in content that exists between some collections. This ensures that participants contribute only once for any title, no matter which collections it resides in. Please contact participation@jstor.org for further details.

Payment Options

Institutions choose one of two payment options for Arts & Sciences collections and the Life Sciences Collection.

Option 1: Institution pays the AAF annually and the ACF at the onset of participation.

Option 2: Institution pays the AAF annually and the ACF over ten years.

Only Option 1 is available for all other collections.

The Ireland Collection, developed in cooperation with Queen's University Belfast, is an interdisciplinary collection of journals and other materials. It will contain a minimum of 75 journals, including journals with moving walls between 1 and 5 years and ceased journals from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. Over 200 monographs and 2,500 manuscript pages will also be included. Complementing JSTOR's existing collections, the Ireland Collection adds titles and resources across the arts, humanities, and sciences in disciplines such as music, art, history, literature, archaeology, mathematics, and biology. The content is international in scope, while also providing a rich focus on Ireland. The Ireland Collection was created with funding from the JISC Digitisation Programme.
